Tennessee CASA Volunteer: Court Appointed Special Advocate

Become a CASA volunteer : Court Appointed Special Advocate to stand up and speak out for youth who have experienced abuse and neglect.

Volunteering is an amazing way to make a difference for children and families impacted by foster care in Tennessee. This month, we would like to highlight our partner organization Tennessee CASA and welcome you to consider getting involved in your local community as a CASA volunteer!

Tennessee CASA is an organization where you volunteer to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate to stand up and speak out for youth who have experienced abuse and neglect. We are serving 60 counties in TN.

Tennessee state law allows for judges to appoint CASA volunteers to “speak up” for the child’s best interests. Most CASA volunteers advocate for only one child or sibling group at a time. CASA will recruit, train, and support all volunteers throughout their time volunteering – which means no prior experience necessary!

Every Child TN had the opportunity to speak with a few volunteers from across the state on their experience. Here’s what they had to say:

“I would urge people to remember that they can make a difference. Being a voice for a child who feels like they don’t have a voice, helping that child out, stopping these adverse childhood experiences not only helps this child but helps society out as a whole. I would just say how can you not volunteer; how can you not give back?”
– Lisa, TN CASA Volunteer

“…These kids are right here…we know these kids; this is happening right here. I get pretty passionate about that…These kids deserve a voice; they deserve to be treated like you and I. They deserve so much and if there is not CASA, I just feel like they won’t get those things.”
– Trish, TN CASA Volunteer

“I would say, give it a try! The rewards are great, the work is sometimes long and difficult, but I think what you get out of it far exceeds what you put into it and we really need more volunteers to help these kids out.”
– Mike, TN CASA Volunteer

CASA volunteers feel supported by their team and never felt like they were alone in this process. If you’re passionate about helping kids in your community and interested in learning more, contact our team today!
